Unclogging a Tub Drain
When your bathtub gets stopped up, it could be a result of hair, soap scum, or other stuff that goes down the drain. You can buy covers to catch hair instead of it going down the drain. If your drain is open, you could consider using a shower cap when not washing your hair. There are other items for sale to keep things from going down the drain.
A good tip to do is to use the covers and make sure you brush your hair to avoid the hair from plugging the drain.
If you have a drain that you can pull up, you can see if there is hair stuck on that. You can also try plunging the drain to see if the stoppage goes away. There are videos on YouTube to show you the right way to create a vacuum to be able to plunge a tub drain.
If you try these tips without success, it is best to have it rodded or blown out as quickly as possible to avoid further back ups.
We do not recommend using a drain cleaner that has acid or chemicals in it because it may damage the piping and can be dangerous if not used properly.
What great advice for keeping drains clear and unclogging a tub! It’s great to see expert plumbers highlighting safe practices and precautions, like drain covers and staying away from harsh chemicals.
